"Hell YEAH!" said James when we blindsided him with the news Friday afternoon. His much-ballyhooed burger stand at 620 W. Anaheim St., next to his chopper shop, is only in its sophomore season and here it has bested the spud offerings of your finest hot-selling fast-food joints, gourmet bistros and elegant chop houses. The fries are extraordinarily crunchy on the outside and just as extraordinarily smooth and pillowy on the inside, which is pretty much the one-two combo criteria cited by our teeming squad of voters.

Margaret Truman, the only child of former President Harry S. Truman and a concert singer, actress, radio and TV personality, and mystery writer, died Tuesday. She was 83. Truman, known as Margaret Truman Daniel in private life, died at a Chicago assisted living center after a brief illness, according to Susan Medler, a spokeswoman for the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum in Independence. President George W. Bush expressed his condolences, saying she had supported her father as he confronted the difficult challenges of his presidency. .
Winter temperatures call for hearty, warming fare
We had quite a snow and ice storm. We received around 19 inches of snow with 5- to 6-foot drifts in some places. We had enough snow that the children could slide right down into our old basement, which has still not been filled in. The old house basement is still open, and part of the house is still sitting on wheels beside it. As soon as the ground is frozen and some of the snow melts, we'd like to move it. We attended the Coblentz family (my mother's side) Christmas gathering at sister Liz and Levi's. With a 21/2-hour drive we were sure glad the snow and ice held off. Our family has added some new members since last year's gathering. We are now a total of 63. I sometimes wonder what Father and Mother would say about our family's increasing size. Of course, sister Emma and Jacob brought 5-month old Steven along to the gathering.
