| Tillie: Coffee, chocolate mix deliciously
Coffee and chocolate make a great pair. Otherwise known as mocha, this dynamic, caffeinated duo has taken the world by storm, with some help from the menu at Starbucks Coffee.Of course Starbucks didn’t invent mocha. Chocolate and coffee have been enjoyed together for ages. They are the perfect couple, with chocolate’s sweet yang completing coffee’s earthy yin.And the jolt of caffeine is pleasing for those who depend on it.The great thing about mocha is that it can be enjoyed many sweet ways – in drinks, cakes, cookies and brownies. Impatient bakers can savor it in the fast lane with this week’s recipes for a hot and cozy beverage, or in a simple and sensuous mocha cake.Transforming coffee into mocha is as easy as grabbing a canister of Nestlé Quick and a jug of milk.
Something cooking in the classroom
Tyler Blancher, 6-foot-2, sporting a bandana, sunglasses and a leather vest, doesn't look like the kind of boy who would get a thrill out of making chocolate truffles. Or anything remotely domestic, for that matter. But the 17-year-old reels off a list of foods he enjoys making: "My favourite was preparing noodles, right from egg and flour. I took the recipe home from school and prepared them again myself. We learned about bread. We made apple pie, lemon meringue cakes and rolls. Last night I made peanut butter cups. I like to make big suppers like roast beef and potatoes and carrots for my mom . . . She's always beat when she comes home. That's why I make suppers for her, so she doesn't need to cook and clean." Doesn't he sound like a perfect peach? Tyler, who will graduate this year from the District Collegiate Institute in Ingersoll, 140 kilometres southwest of Toronto, learned his cooking skills in Grade 10 from teacher Carol Christie.

So if it was up there, it shouldn't have been up there because you have no business up that way, right?" George asked. "Not at 50 Depot Road," Frazier answered. Judge Gary Nickerson ended today's session early, at 1 p.m. rather than the usual 4 p.m., to allow jurors with children to prepare for Halloween. Nickerson has not yet decided on a motion from George for jurors to visit the scene of the crime, a shingled bungalow sold by the Worthington family after the murder. .
It's not about dieting, it's about enjoying
After a month of making basic grains, fruit, and vegetables into staples using my recipes, you'll find it much easier to plan delicious, satisfying meals. Try Laura Pensiero's four-week approach to transforming your eating habits! Week One: Make a produce-aisle hit list Eating more fruits and vegetables is one of the most important dietary habits you can adopt to prevent heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension and to manage your weight. Vegetables in particular will cost you little in the way of calories while offering huge health benefits. Your weekly goal is to eat five to nine servings of fruits and veggies a day. That's not as challenging as it may seem. The serving sizes are reasonable one medium-size fruit, a half cup of cooked vegetables, three-quarters of a cup of 100-percent juice, one cup of raw leafy vegetables, a quarter cup of dried fruit.
Healthier game plan
Don't just snack till you're sick. Try real meals -- and I'm not talking about fried chicken and wings. Since the Super Bowl is played during dinnertime, eat a healthy dinner. Go to the supermarket and pick up a roasted chicken. Or how about sliced white-meat turkey with low-fat cheese and mustard on 100 percent whole-grain bread? If you must order pizza, at least have it as a meal, and try cheeseless thin crust with plenty of veggies -- broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms or even artichoke hearts -- on top. Avoid personal pan and stuffed-crust pizza: The thick, oily crust equals added fat and calories. Soup Dr. Barbara Rolls of Penn State University has completed a great deal of research showing how low-calorie soups can help you fend off hunger and provide nutritious, tasty meals.
