| The Great Holiday Stress Out
Let's face it. December can be tough. There's too much of everything: Cooking, cleaning, decorating, shopping, wrapping, socializing, spending. Too many sweets, too many commitments, too many songs telling you how holly - jolly everything should be.Of course, the holiday stress so many put on themselves is often self induced. If we remembered what Christmas should be, instead of what we have made it to be, it could be as easy as a cozy day inside with friends, family and gratitude for all that we have. This year, make a conscious effort to get back to that Christmas -- if only to a degree. Say 'no.' Set limits. Lower your expectations. Laugh as much as you can. And, above all, just relax. Here, three experts offer their advice for a Christmas that is as easy as ... well, Christmas. The counselor -- Joanne Theobald, counselor at Casper College: .
Competitive intelligence 101
Do something special. You wouldn't have your business if your people didn't go the extra mile for you day-in and day-out, week-in and week-out. 3. The Holidays aren't much fun if you spend them alone. I'm lucky. I have great partners and a tremendous team. I often wonder how the SOHO's do it. I couldn't. But you don't have to be SOHO to spend a lot of time making management decisions alone. Whether your fiscal year lines up with the calendar year or not, there is a natural gravitation pull to this time of year. A lot of decisions tend to get made in December what will stay the same and what will change? This provides you with a fantastic opportunity for employee engagement. Get them involved in decision making. Open up a bit. Share. You don't have to offer up every decision you want to make for debate.
Blog Day Afternoon: Tuesday, Jan. 29
You know you're at a bad Super Bowl party when more people are wearing I heart Kucinich shirts than Pats jerseys. The Wonderful World of Gonos breaks down his worst and asks for yours. If you don't like the Cowboys (or even if you do) and you like comedy that involves making fun of Hitler (who doesn't?): Watch this YouTube clip courtesy of Basic's Bemusings. And if you think Chris Berman is still Da Man, Battling my inner demons would beg to disagree. As would our message board users, who actually come to the defense of Gregg Doyel. You read that right. More community blogs to come...tune back in and keep up the writing! .
Wrapping up a few stray requests before Christmas
Busy, busy, busy. That pretty much sums up everybody's schedule right now.It seems like I start early, reminding others of how fast Christmas is coming up, and encouraging them to plan ahead, not only for shopping, but for cooking and entertaining. And then when the time comes, I'm the one running around like a headless chicken, scrambling to get things done! Oh, well. We're having a white Christmas, there will be lots of family around, and except for returning/exchanging a gift or two, all the mayhem will be behind us in a couple of days. Then our minds will shift gears and we will celebrate the new year, after which a new round of mayhem begins as many of us settle contentedly in to (end) zone-out of bowl games. But that's not the end of it! Then there are the professional football play-offs culminating in that day of days Super Bowl Sunday!Today is kind of a clean-up day at the Exchange wrapping up a request or two and sharing a few incidental recipes.
Soul food is more than just good eats for family with strong southern ...
Mother and daughter keep alive their southern soul food traditions, on and off the plate. The familys always in the kitchen; were laughing, were joking, talking about family who have passed away, (telling) stories, says McNesheye Mac Reed, left. She and her daughter, Taryn Honell, right, own and operate A Taste of Memphis Soul Food in Downtown Boise. .
