Alexander comes out fighting

Wendy Alexander insisted she would be "exonerated of any wrongdoing" over the illegal donation to her Labour leadership campaign fund.

Ms Alexander's comments came as further doubts were raised about when her campaign team first became aware that a donation from a Jersey-based businessman may have been impermissible.

I'm still bitter about the Broncos in Super Bowl 32, and Cleveland is a lot like Milwaukee. If the Red Sox are there, I don't want to see a team with that high of a payroll win the Series. The Bucks are starting the season next week. I'll be a casual observer of them. I'll follow them in the paper and in the box score, but if I have a choice between the Bucks game on TV or "The Office", I'm watching "The Office". This Yi thing does peak my curiosity a little bit. My bet is that when the Senator went to China, he promised Yi and his former team "X" amount of playing time to get him to sign. Probably about 20-30 minutes worth from what I have read. I hope not, because if he's bad and he's been promised minutes that would be bad for the team and the organization. My guess is he's another Andrew Bogut...just a notch above average.

A Last Word Before Tsunami Tuesday

Candidates don't necessarily relish coverage of their deeds, especially during election campaigns.

We know this because we spent two weeks trying to get the campaigns of the leading candidates of both parties to detail their most significant legislation or policy initiatives. None even called us back.

This was not what we expected.

Our project began, naively enough, after reading a challenge from a respected elder statesman of political coverage. On Jan. 4, Charles Peters published a column in The Washington Post titled "Judge Him by His Laws." The piece made the case that Barack Obama is no lightweight when it comes to policy matters, and that he has the chops to get things done.

"People who complain that Barack Obama lacks experience must be unaware of his legislative achievements," Peters wrote.

Recipe: Chopped Club Salad With Thousand Island Dressing

For dressing: Place mayonnaise, chili sauce, relish, scallions, egg, pimentos, mustard and paprika in medium bowl and mix with a few shakes of hot pepper sauce, salt and pepper. Cover bowl and refrigerate until ready to serve. Better if prepared hours in advance.

For salad: In large bowl, mix together chicken, ham, cheese, eggs and bacon.

Toss and ingredients until well chopped and mixed together.

Right before serving, place chilled lettuce on cutting board, cut in half, then slice and chop into about 1-inch cubes.

Put lettuce into bowl with the chicken and ham mixture and toss gently. Put one large spoonful dressing into salad mixture and toss until coated.

Repeat this process until your salad is evenly covered in dressing.

Mariners | Orioles owner has nixed deals before

Their front-office operation has been viewed as largely dysfunctional, and they haven't posted a winning season in 10 years.

Angelos, 78 and still feisty enough to put in six-day work weeks at the Baltimore law firm that made him a multimillionaire defending asbestos victims, apparently looms at the crux of the stalled trade talks between the Mariners and Orioles.

With Adam Jones heading home from Venezuela to Phoenix on Tuesday, discussions continued between the two teams. The proposed deal would bring left-handed pitcher Erik Bedard to Seattle for outfielder Jones, reliever George Sherrill and an undetermined number of Seattle minor-leaguers.

However, there was new word Tuesday that the Mariners might not be the only team in the hunt for Bedard.

Arizona's trauma care deficiency

Arizona's "Level 1" trauma centers, including UMC, deliver top-quality care for people with life-threatening injuries. But the trauma centers are clustered mainly in the state's two urban areas, leaving vast regions across the state unprotected — and costing lives, a new study says. .
