I think she should have paid for our dinner as a small token of her gratitude. What's your opinion? — USED UP IN CALIFORNIA DEAR USED UP: My opinion is the same as yours. But look at it this way: She could have "invited you" to an expensive restaurant. Give her credit for being a talented organizer as well as an ingrate. DEAR ABBY: I am a young woman, happily in love with a young man, "Travis." We have been dating for more than two years and hope to become engaged. But we're unwilling to take the next step without the blessing of my parents, and for a number of reasons, they're not ready to see us become engaged at this time. In the meantime, Trav and I are constantly confronted by people who are eager to see us tie the knot.
Patients with eating disorders defy stereotypes
Carrie wanted to fix everything and make things better for her daughter. But Liz refused to eat her dinner. "Please, Elizabeth. Just eat one grape," Carrie recalled telling her daughter. "We tried every idea, from threats to begging. At that point, the eating disorder had taken over. I know that sounds weird, but we see the eating disorder as something else, because it's not Elizabeth." Ed, the abuser in Liz's head, was telling her not to eat that piece of fruit. "Under it all, there was a little part of me that was saying, ‘This is not good,'" Liz said. "And then there's the Ed voice screaming in my head, ‘You are not going to eat. Do not eat that grape. You're going to weigh like a bajillion pounds if you eat that grape.' " Liz started seeing Dr. Richard Levine, who specializes in eating disorders and adolescent medicine.

First of all, I want to say that Muschamp to Texas is not heresay. He resigned today after meeting with Coach Tuberville. He is leaving us with class & I personally am thankful for the enthusiasm he brought to the Plains of Auburn. I only wish him well, though am a tad surprised he left. I wasn't shocked at the departure of Chizick when UT last raided our staff. The Muschamp departure was a little more surprising but as Tuberville has often said, he hires coaches that he knows have aspirations to be head coaches. It means your getting an up and coming guy who won't be complacent. Don't think for one moment Tubs doesn't already have a guy in mind as he knew Muschamp could possibly have gone to Arkanasas. Tuberville is a defensive minded coach and not to take a thing away from Will, but I think he has always had a lot of input into the defense.
Betting Exchanges - Disruptive innovation at work
Betfair is the dominant betting exchange and the bigger the company gets, the harder it is for competitors to keep pace: the network effect. The Betfair exchange boasts a high degree of liquidity, across a wide range of sports betting markets, alongside a professional customer service operation and a fully integrated telephone and internet betting service. At the end of November 2006 Betfair announced that it had acquired Portway Press Limited, the owner of Timeform, the world-renowned brand publishing horseracing ratings, form guides and analysis. In February 2007 it launched Betfair Radio. The robustness of Betfair's business model is demonstrated by the fact that the company has continued to increase revenue growth month by month, despite facing fierce competition from other betting exchanges, many offering zero commission rates (Mansion betting exchange which opened in September 2004, offering zero commission, shut its doors in October 2007).
Corrections and clarifications
The UN security council had 11 members at its inception, not 15, as we stated in a column headlined Maybe a bigger UN security council is inevitable, page 5, G2, January 23. The number of non-permanent members was increased from six to 10 in 1965. George Monbiot has asked us to point out that he was one of those who was invited to submit nominations for Weekend Guardian's 50 people who could save the planet, page 16, January 5, but was not a member of the adjudicating panel, contrary to the impression given in the introduction to the list. We stated there has not been a single fatality on a "major" airline for more than seven years when we meant six years (Escape keeps record of major airlines intact, page 7, January 19). As the article stated, the last such crash was at Queens, New York, in November 2001.
