Inspiring Others to Grasp Culinary Heritage
John and Patrick Burrows have written a cookbook with the one ingredient a cook cannot buy in a store inspiration. These middle-aged brothers, one living in Fairfield and the other in Portland, Ore., wrote their cookbook to inspire people to divorce themselves "from the constricting act of following recipes word-for-word, to embrace your own culinary heritage, and to create and personalize your own cuisine," according to a passage from the book. "How I Taught My Brother To Cook: A Food Memoir and Guide to Simple Improvisational Cooking in the Tuscan, Provencal, and American Peasant Traditions" is a collection of recipes set against the backdrop of the brothers' growing up in upstate New York. The book is about becoming a better cook in your own way. Their mother was the daughter of an Italian immigrant, Giovanni Napoleone, who was born in Ateleta in Abruzzi.

Dove Season Opens Dec. 15
Tennessees third segment of mourning dove hunting season opens at thirty minutes before sunrise on Saturday, December 15, 2007, and continues until sunset on January 1, 2008, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). The daily bag limit for mourning doves is fifteen (15). Although little used by hunters, this last segment can be very productive. Late harvested grain fields attract large flocks of northern doves as they migrate south. This can provide some excellent and challenging shooting to those who are willing to withstand the winter weather. Hunters should remember that in addition to their licenses, the Migratory Bird Permit (Type 006 or 007) is required for hunting doves (for exceptions, see page 9 of the 2007 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide).
Effortless tips for making crunchy croutons
Croutons and rusks are used to garnish a variety of different soups and salads. Often they make the difference between a good meal and a great soup meal. My grandmother and mother always made croutons and rusks. I have enjoyed eating them all of my life. Following is my mother’s recipe for croutons and rusks that was passed down to her from her mother. Don’t be afraid to try making them. They’re quite easy to make. I’ve never served homemade croutons and/or rusks without compliments and requests for the recipe. Croutons and rusks keep well for several days in an airtight container, so make a large batch if you have enough bread on hand. To make croutons, remove the crust from the bread, if desired. Cut the bread into cubes. You can cut the croutons into any size you like, from tiny cubes for garnishing soups in cups to large cubes for garnishing soups served in soup plates or to add to salads.
