| Katie Brings Her Subdued Excitement to Morning Talk Shows
The Cruise family landed in NYC yesterday afternoon and was straight off to FAO Schwarz to blow off some of that cooped-up energy from sitting on the plane. Tom and Katie walked out empty handed, but Suri nabbed herself a big ol' teddy bear to match her furry jacket. There was no night out at the clubs for mom and dad though (ha, as if) because Katie was up bright and early to make the morning talk-show rounds. She stopped by Good Morning America as well as Regis & Kelly to promote Mad Money and, of course, gush about her family. RECIPE FINDER: Poppy-Seed Torte
Beverly Illia of Santa Rosa, Calif., was looking for a recipe for a poppy-seed layer cake that has pudding between the layers. Betty Hart of Ellicott City, Md., sent in her recipe for Poppy-Seed Torte. She says that to the best of her recollection the recipe first appeared in a women's magazine in the '60s or '70s. It turned out to be her son's favorite cake and the one he requested for his birthday every year. He is now in his late 40s, and her daughter-in-law still makes it for him. I tested the cake using butter and whole milk. The addition of the egg whites makes for a light and airy texture, and the amount of poppy seeds seemed just right. One might be tempted to frost the whole cake, but it really doesn't need it. The custard between the layers is plenty. POPPY-SEED TORTE Cake: 1/3 cup poppy seeds 3/4 cup milk 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla 2 cups sifted cake flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten Filling: 1/2 cup sugar 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1 1/2 cups milk 4 egg yolks, lightly beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 cup chopped walnuts confectioners' sugar Soak poppy seeds in milk for 1 hour.

Which tastes better: New England clam chowder vs. Manhattan clam chowder? Is New England chili better than New York chili? And should you serve guests New York strip steak or New England lobster rolls? It's a good bet to go with chili or chowder, since it's warming, filling and make-ahead. "New England chili uses a lot more meat than New York chili," says Deborah Gavito, culinary director and owner of Counter restaurant. "New York is a very vegetarian-friendly city, we're progressive in that way. People eat fairly light, and the same holds true on Superbowl.

But he also complained and sulked when he didn't get enough balls thrown his way or didn't like the game plan. Once, he even walked off the field before a game was over. I approached the game when I was young, very angry, Moss said. It wasn't at anyone in particular, it was just the game of football. Now, I still carry that same chip on my shoulder, but I do understand that I'm a little bit older. And clearly more mature. Moss was friendly during the hour with media, the first time since the Patriots arrived in Arizona for the big game against the New York Giants that he faced reporters.
Everything that's been happening has been positive this year and I don't want to reflect on anything negative, he said. I've never been that type. Moss avoided trouble all season until earlier this month, when a longtime friend accused him of committing battery causing serious injury to her at her Florida home.
